What is neurofeedback?

neurofeedback

The Sport of Mind Institute is committed to training our clients in Self Mastery and Peak Performance. We use the latest technology and best practices in the field of Performance Technology. Neurofeedback is one of our highly-effective tools available to our clients.

Lets face it, life throws us curveballs. These curveballs send our brain into an over-aroused, under-aroused or unregulated state. Over time, our brain has a tendency to stay in an unorthodox state. These states can manifest themselves as certain unhealthy behaviors such as poor concentration, impulse eating, complusive shopping and other addictive actions.  Most of us are simply trying to regulate our arousal and thus our brain waves.

Neurofeedback is the only non-drug, noninvasive solution that permanently returns the brain waves to a normal state. Through neurofeedback, we are discovering how much our own behavior, and our own capacities, can be self-controlled and subject to systematic improvement. This is the Self Mastery Model.

Neurofeedback takes the willpower out of the equation. Neurofeedback can increase focus, energy, coordination and decrease impulsiveness, tension, anxiety, depression, irritability and mood swings. Say "goodbye" to obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. "So long" to panic attacks, rages or aggressive behavior and expect to never have a headache again. Imagine the havoc these undesirable brain states are having on many people's success in life.

Our capacity for the enhancement of brain function is in many ways greater than our capacity for enhancement of physical skills through exercise and training. The unused potential of our brains is vast by comparison to the improvement that might be in store for us through determined physical exercise. Much of this work only needs to be learned once. From then on, the brain owns the skill even without continued neurofeedback sessions. Then life, itself, becomes the reinforcer of good brain function as improved behaviors, moods and thoughts self-perpetuate.

Dr. Robert Irwin is a Certified Neurofeedback Practitioner from the EEGinfo Institute in Woodland Hills, CA.
